Holidays in Cancun – A bustling international resort, offering something for everyone
Cancun is divided into two distinct areas – Cancun City, the residential area, and Cancun Island, also known as the Tourist Zone. The island of Cancun is connected to the mainland by two bridges, with the main tourist district located on a 12 km peninsula which juts out into the Caribbean Sea. A series of pristine beaches lie along the coastline, all with fantastic soft powdery sand, with the best located in the north of Cancun. Although Cancun is an incredibly busy resort, the miles of coastline means it is still possible to find a quiet stretch. The waters facing the open Caribbean Sea are perfect for watersports, snorkelling and fishing, whilst the calmer waters of the vast sheltered lagoon, Laguna Nichupte, create perfect conditions for water-skiing, for example. Facilities on the beach in Cancun are extensive and a huge array of hotels, many right on the front, offer a wide choice of accommodation.

Cancun has the reputation of a non-stop party town, and the town offers a varied assortment of entertainment, ranging from huge clubs and discos, to quieter piano bars and traditional Mexican bars playing Mariachi music. Isla Mujeres
Lying just off the coast is the sleepy island of Mujeres, a world away from bustling Cancun. A visit will see colourful Caribbean clapboard houses and a popular and much loved turtle sanctuary. A short stroll will discover a myriad of local cantinas, perfect for tequila and spicy lunch or shop for some original and unique Mexican and Guatemalan folk art products. Snorkelling and diving here is among the best in the area and a day in Mujeres is the ideal escape to a wonderful natural setting and utter tranquility.
Ancient Mayan Sites
The region surrounding Cancun was the heartland of early Maya settlements and is where visitors will find the very best examples of this magical ancient civilisation. The world famous Chichen Itza is within easy reach for a day trip or visit the vast ruins of Calakmot, a jungle clad settlement comprising over 6000 structures which was once the largest of all Mayan cities. Cancun Weather – An outstanding annual sunshine record
Cancun has a Caribbean style climate that ensures a healthy proportion of fine hot sunny weather throughout the year with little variation between seasonal temperatures. This near tropical weather guarantees its popularity with visitors escaping the cold winter especially from Europe and North America and although it does have a rainy period it is relatively short lived. Summers are fine with bright sunshine displaying temperatures that are seldom excessive and the chance of some rain is possible. Winters are cooler and drier and altogether more comfortable for a large majority of people.
Weather in Cancun – The perfect summer climate for the beach
Temperatures reach 32c during summer months and are tempered by sometimes strong sea breezes, so humidity and oppressive heat is rarely an issue. Venturing inland away from the coast, the atmosphere becomes more sticky particularly in the tracts of dense jungle found in the region. Rainfall is usually restricted to late afternoons and evenings and is neither prolonged nor frequent. Many days and even weeks may pass between showers. With 7 hours of daily sunshine and generally clear, cloudless skies for the most part, Cancun weather should enjoy endless summer days of uninterrupted sunbathing and rewarding water sports.
Cancun Weather – Warm and sunny winter holidays
The changing season of summer into autumn will see a brief period of frequent heavy rainfall which is by no means a daily occurrence. A large volume of rain may fall in a short space of time but just as quickly dries out as the sun reappears. Temperatures remain hot with 26 – 28c normal, dropping to around 23c as mid winter approaches. Throughout the winter, Cancun holidays should see days of at least 7 hours of sunshine and the cooler temperatures experienced from November to March also bring a drier climate which will see very little rainfall.
